Corey Lewandowski told a conservative radio talk show host this week that he still has not decided on whether to run for the U.S. Senate — and may not decide for several months.
President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, who resides in Windham, returned to the John Fredericks Show on Tuesday and gave an update on this thinking about jumping into the GOP Senate contest for the right to take on Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen a year from now.
Just last week, Lewandowski told Fredericks that he planned to have a “very, very important weekend” last weekend, discussing his political future with his wife, Alison Lewandowski, and their three children.
He said that not only did he speak with his family, but that Trump called him on Sunday “to ask me where I am on the Senate race. He called to encourage me to get into the race.
“And I told the president – and he knows this because his family has, unfortunately, had to live through the disparagement that comes with running for office — I was very candid, the biggest concern in my family right now is the impact on our children.”
He said that while his wife is “very much on board” and his young sons are supportive, he was concerned about his 13-year-old daughter from the “social media and peer pressure side of things.”
“The president completely understands it,” Lewandowski told Fredericks. “And he understands my reservation about getting into a race, which is still 13 months away from the election, and having my name impugned and my family’s reputation impugned with tens of millions of dollars of negative advertising and the impact it’s going to have on our kids.”
